How it's made
This piece was fired in an above ground "pit" with wood and organic materials used as fuel. Before the initial bisque firing, terra sigillata (a fine particle slip) was applied to the vase and burnished to a smooth white sheen.
The organic materials and the atmosphere in the pit produce the varied smoke patterns and unique markings.
